In the run-up to the EURO 08 the Vienna MuseumsQuartier offers a number of football specials for kids.
Round the Ball
At the join-in exhibition “Rund um den Ball” (”Round the Ball”) young museum visitors discover the world of football. While giving a try at football themselves, they learn about how much sweat a striker is emitting in litres per match or find out that already the Aztecs played an early form of football (albeit a very cruel one). Well worth seeing!

Duration: March 5 to June 29, 2008

Big theatre
Under the motto KICK & STAGE, DSCHUNGEL WIEN from March to June presents a theatre project for young people on the topic football in Switzerland and Austria. On 14 stages in 11 cities and with more than 90 theatre performances, 16 theatre groups show current examples of theatre art on the topic group dynamics and society, football and art.
The official kick-off for the project is Friday, March 7, 5:00 pm at DSCHUNGEL WIEN, with the premiere of the football play “Fieberträume” (”Fever Dreams”).

Cool question time
For kids who really want to know: Who decides on the allotment of players’ shirt numbers? Do players and referees get along at all? What does a referee do when forced to whistle against his favourite club? In the context of the series “What’s your job?” Rapid club member Steffen Hoffmann and referee Thomas Steiner answer questions posed by young fans.
For children from 6 to 12

Good reading stuff
Comedian Mini Bydlinski presents his children’s book “Wir bleiben am Ball” (”We stick to the ball”), a story about sport and companionship, victories and defeats. Of course the book is written for girls and boys.

I am a member of a “social” touring football club from Bristol comprised of friends from many walks of life that joins together every two years to celebrate football, architecture and friendship at every major championship over the last 10years. Although we are now advancing in years (average age now ~45) we always make a point of having a couple of games in our host country/city. So far we have only won one game whilst on tour, but we ARE getting better….
For Germany 06 we had games in Berlin and Liepzig; Portugal 04 in Lisbon and Algarve; Japan/Korea 02 in Dublin (!), Netherlands 00 in Amsterdam and Brussels and for our 1st tour in France 08 we managed a game in Brittany + a 7 a side competition in Paris.
Euro 08 will be the 10th anniversary tour of ‘Bristol Cream’ we and we will be visiting Vienna over the weekend of the 19th to the 23rd June 2008.
In addition to the 18 players of our team I also have a French team from Marseille committed to visit Vienna over the same weekend. Hence I am very interested in whether anyone could point me at relevant contacts to set-up a friendly BUT competitive 7-a-side tournament for Saturday the 21st of June - in the morning/early afternoon so that we can then watch the evening match?
Ideally we would like to get a multi-national set of teams together & we would need help in locating a suitable location (school, football club, University grounds…?) at which to hold the competition.
Clearly this could be England’s only chance of winning anything this summer so all help appreciated!!!
If this is not something you could help with directly I would appreciate being forwarded to anyone that could.
Yours
H
